We’ll explain how Snapchat Best Friend algorithms work and answer the most frequently asked questions.
Snapchat Best Friend Algorithm
Your Snapchat Best Friends are those people you Snap and Chat with the most frequently. Although users cannot see each other’s Best Friends lists, there are’ emoji indicators’ that will reveal shared friends. The Snapchat Emoji Meanings explains this in more detail.
Up to eight of your closest friends can be added to your profile’s Snaps and Chat sections.
Snapchat is well-known for being secretive about the algorithm behind your Best Friends list. We know that this list changes in real-time as friends interact with each other.
The algorithm created an order list based on the number of interactions between users over the week. The algorithm is now more complicated, as it considers participation in group chats and the number of Snaps that were sent.

Advertisers can create sponsored Filters to promote a brand, event, or location. Sponsored filters must display a brand logo or name.
Snapchat Lenses, on the other hand, use AR to transform users’ surroundings and create Snaps. Lenses allow you to add 3D effects, characters, and objects and transform your surroundings.
Lenses apply effects and features to users’ faces using a face detection algorithm before taking a photograph.
What is the Snapchat Face Detection Algorithm?
Snapchat Lenses apply Lenses on a face using the Viola Jones algorithm. Haar Features are the algorithm’s recognition of similar facial features and structures.
The algorithm then uses the Active Shape Model for the complete detection of your features. This algorithm has been trained to recognize the boundaries of facial features on “average faces.” The Active Shape Model can then use machine learning to create a 3D model that can scale and move with your face.
Snapchat’s Lens Web Builder allows advertisers to leverage Snapchat’s AR technology to create 3D Lens campaigns. Sponsored Lenses, like Filters, must include a visible logo/brand name.
