Many consoles, including the PS5 do not support discord. But, all is not lost. You can still use Discord to voice chat with your friends via the most powerful console on the planet. It is not possible to install the service.
You can still keep your games on the same console and not depend on your phone. We’ll show you how to Use Discord on PS5 . Continue reading to learn more.
Use Discord on PS5
Surprisingly, the PS5 lacks internet browsing capabilities, as it did not have them in its predecessor. The internet browser was already available on the PS4 from the beginning. But, users can still navigate to PS5 links.
PlayStation 5 users are encouraged to use PlayStation Network or PlayStation Party Chat. You can also send and receive messages from other PS5 players. These messages might contain links to websites that can be opened on the PS5 even if it doesn’t have a browser.
Discord on the PS5: Send a message
- Start PlayStation Party on your console. Choose a friend to message.
- As a message, send them ” www.discord.com“.
- Click on the link to open it.
- Sign in to your account once you have reached the official Discord site.
- Chat with your friends using a voice channel.
Although you can type text channels, voice chat is better for games. This is the easiest way to communicate with others. We recommend that you get a compatible headset.
If you want better audio quality and are willing to link your PS5 and PC, the trick below will work.
This second method allows you to obtain the following items:
- Headset USB
- Cable optic
- A PC
These are the instructions:
- Connect your PS5 via optical cable to the MixAmp and open the PS5 settings menu.
- Go to Sound.
- Select Audio Output.
- Choose from the available options the Digital and Optical Out.
- Turn to your computer and open Discord.
- Go to Discord’s settings.
- Click on Voice and video.
- Select MixAmp from the Input device dropdown menu.
- In the voice & video, settings, change the output device to default.
- Connect your headset to the MixAmp, and verify the connections.
- If all goes well, you can enjoy both the audio from your PS5 or PC through your headset.
MixAmps may not be the most affordable, but they are reliable and allow you to link two devices simultaneously. You don’t need to open links whenever you select messages similar to the first.
Both methods will work now, but they might not be feasible (or necessary) in the future. Although the PS5 does not currently support Discord at this time, it doesn’t mean that Sony isn’t making progress in that direction.
Connect to Your Network Account with Discord
Sony has partnered with Discord. This partnership was made possible by Discord’s Series H round investment in Sony Interactive Entertainment. You can now connect your PlayStation Network account with Discord as of January 2022. Here’s how.
- Open Discord, then go to User Settings.
- Click on Connects.
- Click on the PlayStation icon.
- Sign in using your PlayStation credentials.
The Discord app will be fully optimized when it finally arrives on Sony’s consoles. Discord’s web version is only available for keyboard and mouse users. The PS5 controller is slower and does not replace the former control scheme.
You’ll find Discord much more intuitive and user-friendly if you have it optimized. This feature is expected to be released by Sony sooner than expected.
You want everyone to see what game you are playing and your game activity. Make sure that Display in Profile and Show PlayStation Network as your status has been selected in the Connections settings window.
PlayStation Party Chat & Discord Comparison
PlayStation Party Chat may not be as flexible as Discord, but it is still a great option for PS5 users. Instantly make new friends and join game parties. The service allows players to make new friends.
Discord is still a far superior choice to Party Chat in these ways:
- It is more easily accessible.
Party Chat is available only for PlayStation consoles. Discord, however, is already available on PC and mobile devices. The same profile can be used on all platforms with the same convenience.
- It offers more features.
Discord offers many features that Party Chat does not, such as media embedding. You can still send images via Party Chat, but you cannot send GIFs or stickers directly from the keyboard.
- There are many more users.
Discord is more popular than Party Chat. It’s also free and is available on many more platforms.
- It’s cross-platform.
Discord lets you communicate with friends on your PS5 and PC. PlayStation Party Chat doesn’t work across platforms.
Soon to Your PS5
It is nice to have interim solutions for the Discord issue discussed above. Many users would still benefit from an official social media platform integration. Discord allows PS5 owners to stay in touch with their friends and even use voice chat without needing another device.
